This is a repository of my thoughts on television, feminism, my research and my life.
So I get up this morning to go to class and I overhear a conversation that really irks me, for lack of better terminology. I hear someone going on about how one of the people that lives in their suite is gay and that they don’t feel comfortable “living with one of those fags”.
Last I checked, not too long ago, it was the year of 2011…long gone were the days of intense patriarchy, gender/class discrimination and homophobia..right? Evidently not. I guess I missed the memo stating that we were not allowed to mature as a society past the 1970’s, but had I received it, I would have emphatically ignored and refuted it.
I understand that people are on some level, afraid, of things changing or things that are different than what they understand; I disagree with it, but understand I do. However, there has been intensive research done to see if there is any negative effect of GLBT persons being in any communities and the science has stamped a giant “IT DOESN’T CHANGE A FUCKING THING YOU CRANIAL DEFICIENTS!” seal on all of those concerns.
So as a public service, I will state, for the record. Just because someone who lives in close proximity to you is gay, does not mean in the slightest that they are interested in you. It is not the gay agenda to “recruit” straight people to be gay or violate straight people. The thought that this is a real threat is both idiotic and ignorant.
Therefore, to the ignoramus who I heard speak the dumbest words of the day, stop thinking so hard, get your head out of your ass and get over yourself…you’re just not that important.
